NEWS RELEASE: KEVIN H. GRAY AS EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
The Board of Directors of the Tannenbaum-Sternberger Foundation is pleased to announce the hiring of Kevin H. Gray as its new Executive Director. Gray brings nearly 25 years of experience in the Guilford County nonprofit sector, including two decades with the Weaver Foundation, followed by extensive nonprofit consulting work. Most recently, he served as interim Executive Director for Greensboro Downtown Parks, Inc., where he led the organization for the past year and a half and provided crucial stability during a time of transition.
Gray’s appointment follows the passing of Robert O. Klepfer, Jr., who died on October 24, 2025. Klepfer served the Foundation for more than 54 years, beginning as a part-time Executive Director and later transitioning to a full-time leadership role upon his retirement from law practice. His dedication, steady guidance, and deep compassion shaped the Foundation’s identity and its longstanding commitment to serving Guilford County.
“Kevin brings a deep understanding of Guilford County’s nonprofit landscape and a sincere commitment to the people who live here. His collaborative spirit will help guide the Foundation into its next chapter, and we are confident that he will honor the legacy of service that Bob embodied throughout his life and work,” said Sigmund Tannenbaum, MD, Chair of the Board.
As Executive Director, Gray will lead the Foundation’s grantmaking strategy, strengthen nonprofit partnerships, and continue its mission to serve the people of Guilford County with integrity and purpose.
“I am honored to follow in Bob’s footsteps and to carry forward the work he devoted his life to,” Gray said. “His leadership shaped this Foundation and strengthened countless organizations across Guilford County. I am grateful for the trust placed in me, and I look forward to supporting the nonprofit community in a way that reflects his spirit of service.”
